La Perla is a second generation Italian restaurant in Cape Town. The restaurant was started in 1957 by Emiliano Sandri, who came to South Africa from Piemonte in Northern Italy. La Perla opened its doors in Waterkant Street, central Cape Town and moved to its current location on the beachfront in Sea Point in 1969, when the original building was demolished to make way for new offices. Over the years, La Perla has become a Cape Town institution, with a rich history, loyal following and ever-expanding clientele. Based primarily on Italian cuisine, La Perla has developed its own brand and style over the years, developing to what can today be described as a “South African-Italian” restaurant.
